plays Kate Beckett
| Stana Katic was born on April 26, 1978 in Hamilton, Ontario, to parents who had emigrated from the Dalmatian coast of what was then Yugoslavia. As a teenager, Katic moved with her family to Aurora, Illinois, where she graduated with top marks from West Aurora High School in 1996. After graduation she enrolled at the University of Toronto to study biology and international law, but after being cast in a short indie film made by friends (Acid Freaks, 1999), she decided to return to her original dream of being an actor and enrolled in the Goodman School at DePaul University in Chicago. In 2003 she landed her first role in a full-length feature, another indie film called Shut-Eye, which has recently been re-released on DVD. |
Katic speaks five languages, which has given her an unusual facility with accents, and is frequently cast as a non-native English speaker (she was meant to be French in The Librarian, Armenian in The Shield, and Russian in Stiletto, The Closer, and The Double, among others).
On April 15, 2015, Katic married her longtime boyfriend, actor Kris Brkljac.
As of 2019 Katic is starring in an independently produced drama series, Absentia, where she plays FBI agent Emily Byrne. Byrne goes missing and is declared dead, and when she resurfaces in her old life, her sketchy memories and the suspicion that she's been involved in murder complicate her attempts to reconcile with her family.
