LITERARY AND OTHER REFERENCES
  • Miami Vice was an American TV series in the 80s about undercover cops working in Miami, usually busting drug trafficking and prostitution rings. It was also made into a movie in 2006 which bombed.
  • Everyone probably already knows of YouTube, a popular video sharing and streaming service now owned by Google. It's home to many viral videos, music videos, and other user uploaded content. While there are plenty of videos about bears and moose, it doesn't seem like there's one of a bear actually decapitating a moose.
  • Agent Bauer is a nod to Agent Jack Bauer from the TV series 24, played by Kiefer Sutherland. 24's Jack Bauer isn't with DHS; he's a Counter Terrorist Unit agent out of Los Angeles, and the show told the story of each of his days, with one 24 episode season being 1 day of his career.
  • Colin Hunt uses a variety of British slang. Among the more obscure (to Americans): "married to the Bill" (the Bill is slang for British police, though no one knows exactly why) and "total pants" (meaning complete crap).

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

QUOTABLE QUOTES

  • K-Becks and Lanie talk.
  • Beckett peeking out from behind Castle's hand.
  • Lanie's words of wisdom
  • Colin Hunt using Castle's "Good thing I'm not NYPD" line.
Dustjackets
  • LANIE: Oh what, was that supposed to be a secret, or something?
BECKETT: Yes... no. You think he knows?
  • LANIE: How long can you circle before you run out of fuel?
  • BECKETT: How does it look?
LANIE: Like you waited too long.
    BECKETT: The vic.
  • CASTLE: Weird. We're usually more in sync than that.
  • CASTLE: Well, sometimes it's the people we know best that we don't know at all.
  • LANIE: Maybe he is the wrong guy, but even if he is, how long are you going to wait to find out?
  • BECKETT: People change when you're not looking.
  • RYAN: Or they could do that.
  • COLIN HUNT: He's British. He'll drink.
  • CASTLE: Well, she's fun and uncomplicated. I think that's what my life needs right now.
JUST THE FACTS
Go here to discuss the spec
  • Lanie and Javi have the occasional booty call.
  • Lanie has been working at the ME's office for at least 10 years.
OOPS
  • Beckett says that diplomatic immunity can be waived if the diplomat is a suspect in a murder investigation, but in 2x11 - "The Fifth Bullet", it was made clear that diplomatic immunity still holds if the diplomat is a suspect. Not an "oops," but another funny connection to 2x11: the killer is named Darius... same name the killer used in 2x11.
  • Scotland Yard can't send over prints for a British citizen?
  • As an detective inspector for Scotland Yard, wouldn't Colin Hunt be able to look (or get authorization to look) in the diplomatic pouches?
  • Apparently Colin's warrant card (what the British police flash instead of a badge) is the wrong color.
