  • F. Scott Fitzgerald was an American writer, most famous for his novel The Great Gatsby, which is often cited as the quintessential story of the 1920's Jazz Age, a term that Fitzgerald himself invented.
  • Ernest Hemingway was also an American writer, most famous for his hard-boiled, macho writing style.

  • Castle confessing that no one had ever said an encouraging word to him before Damian.
  • Beckett's unshakable trust in Castle's judgment, even when she's convinced Westlake is a murderer.
  • Beckett trying to work the espresso machine.
  • Beckett spinning her story in Damian's interrogation.
  • Martha and Castle's heart-to-hearts about Damian.
  • Blanca the mail carrier.
  • Castle confronting Damian.
  • RYAN: Jewelry box? My fiancee never takes her ring off her finger.
AMBER: Is your fiancee's ring 11 carats?
  • CASTLE: Do I see two men jumping on a hot workman related lead?
Ryan and Esposito stare at him.
CASTLE: That sounded a lot dirtier than I wanted it to.
  • ESPOSITO: Mom and Dad are fighting.
    RYAN: Who's winning?
    ESPOSITO: glare of doooooom
  • CASTLE: Without Damian Westlake I'm a lawyer. I'm a grifter. I'm a rodeo clown. But I'm not a writer. Without him, I'm not me.
  • CASTLE: When I told Damian that the best detective in New York was working his wife's case, I meant it.
  • CASTLE: She wants a gift that says "I love you," but nothing that says "I love you more than life itself, please don't leave me or I might die."
  • CASTLE: What kind of man leaves beautiful Puerto Rico to retire in freezing cold New York?
DET. SALAZAR: The kind whose beautiful wife is from Long Island.
  • BECKETT: "Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy." F. Scott Fitzgerald said that.
CASTLE: Then it must have been Ernest Hemingway who said "Man, I sure could use a drink right about now."
BECKETT: Lead the way. I'm buying.

  • Castle was sent to boarding school at Edgewyck Academy when he was 14, where he was homesick and lonely till Damian Westlake befriended him. Damian was the editor of the literary magazine and he published a story of Castle's and told Castle that he had a real talent for writing.
  • Damian encouraged Castle to write, but never made much of his talent himself.
  • Ryan was going to give Jenny chocolate for Valentine's day until Esposito convinced him that that was a bad idea, since Jenny is planning her wedding and thus on a diet. Espo thinks that Lanie wasn't into Valentine's stuff, but Ryan convinced him to show up with a gift just in case, so he bought her some jewelry "that girlfriends like."
  • Castle is a member of the Varick Club, which seems to be some sort of hotel/gentleman's club, but he hasn't been there in a while.
  • Alexis gives Ash a picture frame engraved with the words 'true love' and puts a picture of his pet rat inside.
  • Josh is apparently home from Africa, as Beckett said that they didn't really have any Valentine's plans since they were both so busy, but if they had a couple hours off they'd probably have dinner.
  • Would Hasburg really be allowed to bring a match into the interrogation room? You can't even take them on a plane.
