  • "The Pit and the Pendulum" (1842) is a story written by Edgar Allan Poe, one of the first masters of the horror genre. Saw is an exceptionally gory horror film from 2004.
  • Indira Gandhi (no relation to the Mahatma) was Prime Minister of India for four terms. She was assassinated in office in 1984. Amelia Earhart was an American pilot during the early days of aviation. She vanished during an attempt to cross the Atlantic in 1937. Hermione is a character from the Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowling.
  • Crow / Matthew's sister, Rosie, wears a 'Hayley Blue' shirt. This is the famous pop singer murdered in the next episode.
  • Castle's 'space cowboy' costume is a shout out to Firefly, the short lived but immensely popular Joss Whedon space western. It aired from 2002-2003, with a movie sequel, Serenity, in 2005. Nathan Fillion starred as Captain Mal Reynolds, whose outfit was the costume Castle is trying on.
  • Frank Miller wrote a comic called The Spirit, which became a film in 2008. Stana Katic played Morgenstern.
  • Esposito and Ryan also get a shout-out -- they show up at Castle's party wearing costumes from former roles (Jon Huertas as Sgt Espera from Generation Kill and Seamus Dever as Dr. Ferlinghetti from Army Wives).
  • The ep doesn't reference the X-Files episode 'Bad Blood' directly, but the motions Lanie makes before she removes the stake from the body are the same motions made by the unfortunate ME who removes the stake from Ronnie, the teenaged vampire in that ep.
  • 'Father won't be quite himself' is probably a reference to Norman Bates' line from Psycho: 'Mother isn't quite herself today'.
  • Jason Badower is the artist who drew Crow's graphic novel. If his work looks familiar, this might be because he's also done the graphic novels for Heroes.
  • A 'beard' originally referred to a man a lesbian might take home to family gatherings or even marry so that people wouldn't know she was queer. It's since become a general term for anyone you hide behind to mask your true purpose.

  • Castle in the Firefly costume
  • The costume shop - do you want to get something pierced?
  • The cherries moment
  • Kate pulling Castle behind her when they're looking for Morlock
  • Castle rescuing Alexis and Paige from the party
  • Beckett egg-sitting
  • Castle's fake story
  • Another 'Feed The Birds' between Castle and Esposito
  • Beckett and Esposito discussing costumes and Castle's party
  • Castle's jump, including flailing arms, after opening the coffin.

2x06 Vampire Weekend - Dustjackets: A Castle Wiki
  • ALEXIS: What exactly are you supposed to be?
    CASTLE: A space cowboy.
ALEXIS: Didn't you wear that like, five years ago?
    CASTLE: So?
ALEXIS: So don't you think you should move on?
  • CASTLE: We could use this opportunity to find you something for my party. Slutty nurse?
BECKETT: Fantasize all you want, Castle, I'm not trying on costumes for you.
  • BECKETT: Which Frank Miller? Epic Comics or Darkhorse years?
CASTLE: Oh my God, that's the sexiest thing I've ever heard you say. I had no idea you were interested in comic books.
BECKETT: Oh, Castle, the things you don't know about me could fill a book.
  • RYAN: It's like joining a club. I like to play golf, you like to play golf, I like to suck blood you like to suck blood. (off their rather bemused looks) What? I used to go out with someone who was into the life.
ESPOSITO: What happened, did the relationship suck?
  • CASTLE: You smell like cherries.
    ESPOSITO: Are we interrupting something?
    BECKETT: No! / CASTLE: Yes.
  • CASTLE: You want to bite me, you buy me dinner.
  • PSYCHIATRIST (about Castle): I will arrange for someone from social services to come get Mr. Lockerby, and if you want, I can have someone get him too.
  • CASTLE: (after seeing Beckett's costume) I'm giving you the bird.
  • CASTLE: You took care of Feggin.
BECKETT: Yeah, well, he was easy. He didn't even fuss when I put him to bed.

Go here to discuss the spec
  • Ryan dated a girl who was into the vampire lifestyle. They broke up because she wanted to have sex in a coffin.
  • Ryan is reading Heat Wave. He was holding it outside of Lockerby's holding cell.
  • The makeup and prosthetics for this episode resulted in an Emmy nomination for the makeup team in 2010.
  • Being a graduate student in Forensic Anthropology doesn't actually explain the bones in Damon's apartment. Forensic Anthropology is the study of human bones to solve crimes, and all the bones in the apartment are from animals.
  • It doesn't seem very likely that the tree where the woman was buried would look the same eighteen years later as it did in Matthew's memory, so his drawing shouldn't actually match the picture in the paper.
  • Although the body was supposedly found two years earlier, the Philly Ledger issue with the article about the discovery of the woman's bones is from September '09.
  • When Ryan brings the paper with the missing person on it, the way he holds it changes between shots.
  • In the photo of Crow that Beckett shows to the fang master, Crow's eyeliner is very, very dark, but in the closeup of his face in the graveyard, it doesn't look like Crow has much eyeliner on at all.
